Out Of The Box For Marketing Your Small Business

Most times you’ll hear marketing executives complaining about budgets being too small and limited as to enable them to do something about branding. But not all success stories about company or personal branding come with a lot of money. Some, with the help of creativity, imagination and smart, out-of-the-box thinking have pushed products, services or even entrepreneurships into profitable, wide-spread success.

What follows are several innovative, beyond the mainstream ideas that can help market your small business more effectively:

Say thanks to your customers. As most marketing studies say, when entrepreneurs, business owners and managers go out of their way to send a thank-you card to customers, seventy seven percent (77%) of them appreciate it greatly. It’s something that encourages loyalty and raises the potential for frequency of purchase. But, let’s think out of the box -how’s about hosting a special event especially for your loyal customers to be the first ones to try your “new” product, extension, service or in-store promotion? By way of saying thank you.

Get personal with them. Were you ever billeted in the same hotel for a couple of occasions with the last one being such a great experience because the staff members at the front desk knew your face and name? And, wasn’t that basket of fruits in your room with a personal note from the GM awesome? With the cell phone technology so advanced, why not take a shot of any of your customers and with her ok, enlarge it and display it in the front entrance with a caption that reads “Ms. So & So. She’s smart enough to know where to go to get real value for her money.” For this, give her a token gift certificate. Then change this every week to feature other shoppers.

Create a sustainable loyalty program. Depending on how relevant your rewards will be seen by your target market, this type of promotion can be a high performance project. Take a second look at your customers. If they’re housewives, anything that will make her job in the kitchen or at the washing machine easier will be attractive. If kids, chocolates, candies and stuff are sure-fire come-ons. The reward scheme can be based on either how often a customer buys or how much she buys cumulatively after a certain time frame.

Make full use of LinkedIn. It’s a social media platform that could provide rare opportunities to market general products or your personal brand, especially if you’re catering to a selective niche market. A lot of other entrepreneurs and small businessmen are also using this, so connecting with them might be a good idea to learn things for your personal development and at the same time promote whatever it is you’re selling.

In learning how to think out of the box, look at what all your competitors are doing and then, don’t do the same thing. Do something different. Your company branding will stand out better. In other words, don’t be just one of the boys. Be THE boy!
